One of my most favorite things to do during the holiday season is visit the Atlanta Home & Lifestyle’s holiday house. Each year, an amazing estate is selected for a multitude of designers to come in and decorate each taking a portion of the house to blow out in style. From mid-November to early December the house is open for guests to tour getting decorating inspiration from some of the city’s top designers with the proceeds benefiting an organization (this year was The Children’s Learning Gardens At The Southeastern Horticultural Society).
This year the house was near the Mt. Paran area with a historical stone exterior and tasteful modern accents like iron doors and windows and copper detailing. Twenty national and local designers participated this year including Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, Steve McKenzie, Robert Brown, Melanie Millner and Heather Hogan Roberts. Here's a look at some of my favorite rooms in the house (nearly the whole estate, it was gorgeous!).
The kitchen by Robert Brown was one of my favorite rooms in the house especially since we are about to start designs for our new kitchen renovation. The two-toned cabinets, vintage runner, iron lantern and those amazing countertops. The room essentially had two large scale islands and two refrigerators although you wouldn't be able to tell about the fridges since they were built into these custom cabinets.
I feel in love with these countertops and of course this is the one room which didn't have resources. Isn't it beautiful?
The kitchen opened up into the family room which was decorated by Lindsay Coral Harper with moody tones, animal accents and plaid patterns.
Off of the family room was a covered outdoor living area designed by James Wheeler. What a haven! It helped that it was nearly 70 degrees yesterday when I toured the home. I loved the layered look in the room and large accents.
This hallway designed by Ivy and Vine's Heather Hogan Roberts is a room I will be taking design influences from and bringing into my own home. I loved these vintage intaglios mixed with tortoise shells and oyster plates. These chevron trimmed shades with pom pom trim on the bottom were also awesome used in both the hall and the powder room. The pictures were a bit tough given the angle of the room, but you get the idea.
Loved the wallpaper in this powder room mixing classic blue and white with a chinoiserie feel.
Going up the stairs in the main entrance I was excited to see this beautiful chandelier in the entryway.
Up the stairs was this amazing art nook that mixed abstract, portraits and photography to create a really awesome space full of personality and color. The art was sourced from Huff Harrington.
Right next to the gallery room was this fun hallway nook with a bold print and great mix of patterns.
Down the hall was the kid's room was another one of my favorite rooms in the house designed by Melanie Millner. Am I too old to have a room like this?? I hope not. How fun is that loft bed?? This rug was to die for - white and fluffy and surprisingly clean for how many people were walking through the room - assuming they cleaned it each day? If not, I need this.
This was the best holiday idea I saw in the house - these cutout snowflakes were tacked to the ceiling with thumbtacks! Brilliant.
Along the other side of the house was a masculine chic bedroom and bathroom with dark wood and walls, plaid and iron.
On the bottom floor in a separate wing of the house was the master bedroom which started with a dark moody library and then into this white bright and airy master bedroom and bath and walk in closet designed by Carole Weaks.
This was in one of the hallways upstairs that I am actually not sure who designed it, but I loved how they paired pheasant feathers with a tortoise shell vase.
